Giles Scott

Giles Scott co-founded Ulpotha with Viren Perera, after trading a career developing property in London for a life in a Sri Lankan village with no electricity in the huts and a lake for a bathroom. He has spent the three decades since helping to shape it, from its early days of mud, curd and well-meaning guesswork through the tsunami and the long closure of the Covid years. He also runs Haldummulla Estate, a tea plantation near Haputale that serves as Ulpotha’s sister property, and is now writing a book about the village, its people and the guests who keep coming back.
