Family Retreat
Saturday 16th October - Wednesday 20th October

Retreat is 4 nights

Rates include all accommodation and food

Book before 7th October to secure your stay

Ulpotha is an amazing place for families to come and reconnect with others and nature, much needed for most after these ongoing lockdowns, lack of social activities and excessive screen time. There is always lots to do for everyone. Yoga is offered twice a day for the adults, while the children are being entertained and supervised by our fun and responsible camp leaders.

Ulpotha is a self-sustaining agricultural community spanning 25 acres in the jungle heartland of Sri Lanka, offering guests an out of this world experience of living in nature in an incomparably beautiful setting.

For this special family retreat, Ulpotha will be slightly reorganized to serve as a safe and fun location for all the children, while remaining a haven of peace for the parents.

Ulpotha is a place that really encourages you to SWITCH off, so we would like to emphasize that the kids bring only flashlights and cameras, (no phones, tablets, laptops, computer games, speakers, etc….).

Family friendly

Kids (above 6y old) can choose to sleep together in dormitory style huts separate from their parents (one for boys, one for girls), or with their parents. Parents will be given a beautiful traditional hut.

Children will be given the opportunity to eat separately from their parents in order to allow the adults a chance to relax, chat with other parents, eat in peace and quiet and not have to deal with your kids' noise and mess. 😀

Comfort in nature

Each of our charming open-air huts has cupboards, safes for valuables and comfy beds draped with cosy nets. You will share unique communal bathrooms and enchanting open-air showers.

We serve traditional Sri Lankan (spiced down) food. Organic fresh ingredients straight from our garden are cooked on wood fire to make the most delicious vegan spread.

There is no a/c, no fans, no electricity, no WIFI - what you do have is barefoot luxury, unlike anything you've encountered before. This is your chance to get away from it all and be ensconced in the bosom of Mother Nature.

Kids Activities

There are many fun things for kids to do in Ulpotha — from exploring the expansive grounds, to swimming, rafting, watching the wildlife, cycling (bring bikes for smaller kids if you can), art workshops and group games and adventures.

We will have on hand a few energetic and responsible people dedicated to looking after your kids while you are in yoga or massages. Our 'camp leaders' will organise some great activities for them during the day, but to be honest experience has taught us the kids will generally entertain themselves pretty well if they have each other and this amazing natural playground that is Ulpotha (we will keep an eye on them though ;-).

Kids Camp Leaders

There is no a/c, no fans, no electricity, no WIFI - what you do have is barefoot luxury, unlike anything you've encountered before. This is your chance to get away from it all and be ensconced in the bosom of Mother Nature.

There is also a lovely lake to swim in, free to use bicycles for exploring the surrounding area, our village kitchen to upgrade your rice and curry skills with our friendly cooks, nature walks (with a guide if you want), perhaps an excursion to local off-the-beaten-path archaeological sites, a tuk-tuk trip to the local market, ….and many, many swing-beds and hangout spots to just relax on with a book from our well-stocked library.

The beautiful tank at Ulpotha offers wonderfully relaxing opportunities to boat, birdwatch and swim

Your Yoga Instructor
Elena Orth

German-born Elena fell in love with Yoga during her first trip to India in 2012 and returned in 2016 for her first Ashtanga-Vinyasa Teacher Training. She has not stopped learning ever since. She alternates additional trainings in Advanced Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga and the more vigorous Rocket Vinyasa in India, Germany and Italy, with regular teaching.

She has made it her passion to assist people in initiating personal change through yoga by sharing the tools she found most helpful in her own experience of regular Yoga classes in Hamburg, Lisbon and Colombo, as well as in her Vinyasa Teacher Trainings in Goa.

In your morning classes in the unique surroundings of Ulpotha, she will combine the fluidity of Vinyasa with the solid framework derived from the Ashtanga and Rocket series, and the evening classes will be dedicated to the deeper layers through slow Vinyasa and Elena's signature Yin & Yang flows.

Yoga classes are either in Ulpotha's lovely open-air shala or outdoors in one of the secret yoga spots. Classes are designed to be suitable for all levels.
