Yoga Instructor

I achieved my 200hr YTT in February 2018 in Vinyasa, Hatha and Yin yoga.

My primary love and practice is Ashtanga yoga. The unique breathing, moving, and counting method of Ashtanga has brought me strength, flexibility, and focus in both body and mind. It has made me appreciate the importance of bringing a meaningful ‘practice’ to one's life.

By profession, I am a medical doctor. I have completed a 6-month yoga teacher course in yoga therapy which has opened a wonderful new avenue of interest, particularly understanding the deep connection between yoga and wellness, from a medical angle too. I try to incorporate the knowledge of how the power of the Asana and pranayama (breath) can truly heal the body into my teaching.

I truly believe this is a life-changing practice and thoroughly enjoy sharing it with others.

Yoga Instructor

I'm a keen practitioner of Ashtanga and completed a training in Vinyasa and Yin in 2017 which started my yoga journey. Gathered valuable info on the primary series asanas and anatomy along the way.

Since then have made ashtanga a tool of practice to keep check with self and non-self. Devoted to the method, I believe the sublime nature of the breath & body will be realized through regular practice.

I have attended Sharath Ji’s (Sharath Jois) led class workshops in Mysore and am always looking forward to deepening the practice.

Retreat Schedule

When you arrive you can leave the digital world behind. Ulpotha is a living permaculture village and you will sleep in earthen huts and feel connected to the land. Much of the food is grown on-site and the whole atmosphere at Ulpotha is permeated with metta (loving-kindness).

We will have a morning class from 7:30 - 9:30 am. This will be a half primary Ashtanga series led class preparing you for a Mysore style self-practice which you will be able to take home with you.

In the evenings from 4-5pm there will be Pranayama and Meditation/Yin Yoga.  We will go through several breathing exercises, learning to control and regulate the breath, relaxation Nidra and a Yin yoga.

You will share a charming double hut and unique communal bathrooms and enchanting open-air showers, while having a comfy single bed draped with a cosy mosquito net to yourself.

All levels and families are welcome.  Traditional Sri Lankan vegetarian cuisine is served with love.

There is no a/c, no fans, no electricity, no WIFI (there is limited 4G near the parking lot) - what you do have is barefoot luxury, unlike anything you've encountered before. This is your chance to get away from it all and be ensconced in the bosom of Mother Nature.
