Our Aim LankaRealAid has been established as an informal entity by us, Giles Scott and Viren Perera, to act as a direct and indirect channel for immediate aid to areas that have been particularly badly affected by the tsunami. For those who wish to contribute to formal, long-established aid organisations, please go to HelpSL for a list of such organisations and their activities. For those who either know us or would like to channel their contributions through a less formal channel, where almost 100% of funds will be utilised in relief efforts and goods, contributions can be directed to the account below. Please note that our efforts will be focussed entirely on aid and not on administration. Therefore we will not have accounts or detailed records of what went where and to whom. Our direct aid efforts will be focussed on areas where we have personal and long-standing friends and contacts. We are in regular communication with them to find out what is needed where and by whom, and we will then get it out as quickly and as reliably as possible. We intend to provide on-going relief for what we expect will be three to six months, by which time the urgent needs of those affected will have been provided for and the efforts of government and large-scale relief organisations will have taken over in a more comprehensive manner. We will then hand over any remaining resources or incoming contributions to one or more of these organisations. What You Can Do Circulate the HelpSL site as widely as you can so that anyone who wishes to contribute aid to Sri Lanka knows where to send their aid. You can also make a contribution yourself to one of the organisations listed there. If you want your relief aid to be channelled through LankaRealAid, you can send your cash contribution via the bank account of East Pole Foundation Limited (see Ulpotha). Each truck load of goods we are sending out has proved to cost approximately £3,000 each - either try to raise this between a group of you and send it directly to the account below or send a contribution that can be used towards the filling of a truck. In the East Coast, where we are concentrating our attention for the moment, the current need is greatest for cooking utensils, kerosene stoves and lanterns, sleeping mats, sheets and pillows and cleaning implements (food, clothing and medicines are, for the moment, available).
